While in the process of turning 30 this fall, I reflected a bit on where I was vs. where I thought I would be when I was in those naive, but very certain days of college and I laughed because there is no way in college I would ever have predicted I would be anything even remotely resembling a budget analyst for Congress when I turned 30. So I started thinking about the cast of characters in my freshman dorm (North Fayerweather) and how far they have come from room-to-room 'tails in early October 1985...(Apologies to those whose spousal/progeny/employment information I lack).

My roommates: Barbara Elliott is pursuing a double master's in library science and pharmacology and is raising her daughter Megan on Long Island. Liz Eilender is an attorney and is living in Darien, Conn., with her husband and new baby.

Shared a bathroom with: When I last heard from her, Casey Engleman was working for Illinois state government and had recently gotten married. Anne Gazzaniga got her master's in public administration at the Wagner School at NYU. Anyone heard from Alison Foster?Karen Goettsche, a Ph.D. candidate at NYU, lives in the Washington area with her husband and is working as a researcher for William Safire's "On Language" column. Kim Hall is pursuing an advanced degree in environmental management at the University of Michigan. Anyone heard from Emily Glasser? Texas native Adriane Harris has returned to Houston and gotten her MBA. Where are Anita Hamilton (publishing?) and Jamie Heller (law?)?

The Guys Upstairs: Jim White is in his element on Wall Street, working for Deltec Asset Management Corp. in NYC and has recently decided to give up his bachelor life and get married. Pat Giersch is pursuing his Ph.D. in Chinese history at Yale. Wayne Scheeler got his law degree at Harvard and, last I heard, was practicing out west and working with Native American tribes. Chad Tyranski is working at Fannie Mae and lives in the Washington area. NYC man-about-town Dave Gluck is getting his Ph.D. in clinical psychology, Eric Schlezinger is corporate counsel for Roche Bioscience in the Bay Area, and Alec Scott is practicing law in Toronto, where he just won his first trial. Anyone heard from Drew Robinson? Where are John Lubow and Chris Arras?

The Guys Downstairs: Geoff Gilmartin and Mike Blechner ended up as roomates again when they went to Dartmouth Medical School. Their other roommate, Bob Beadel, is enjoying life as an attorney in Boston. Rob Eleveld worked in Seattle this summer for ONYX, a software company which has 20 Dartmouth grads out of 200 employees. Rob is still working there parttime while finishing up business and engineering classes at Stanford. Rob recently got together with freshman-year roommate Himraj Dang for a day and a half. Himraj was in California from Singapore, where he is working for GE Capital in structure finance. Anyone heard from John Frankel?

BTW ran into our UGA when I was in graduate school. John was doing development work at the Kennedy School when I was there. My London FSP is next time...
