Father Dick Ellis, who is an Episcopalian priest, put together the noble memorial service at our 45 th: from the opening prayer, to the magnificent hymns, the moving homily by Doc Dey, the readings, and the closing prayer. The material was gathered from beyond the borders of the Episcopal prayer book to satisfy the spectrum of religious persuasions. Dick taught French at Taft School for two years and spent three at the Episcopal Seminary in New Haven before his ordination. He had served as assistant in a parish in Worchester, where he met Monica, whom he married in 1958 in her home in London, England. He went to several parishes until he joined St. John's in New Hartford, Conn., as rector for almost 22 years until his retirement to Portland, Maine. The couple have three children, Timothy, Kristin 'B5, and Jere-my. In addition to his fluency in French, Dick speaks and reads Russian. Dick still performs as a "supply" priest where needed. The couple travel quite a bit, much of it to England to visit Monica's kinfolk Our class produced at least seven clergy members, including Fran Frellick (Baptist and UCC), who assisted Dick in the memorial service; David Duncombe (Presbyterian); Walt Grevatt (Presbyterian); EdSumner (Episcopalian); the late Marsh Meyer (Jewish); and the late John Mighell (Episcopalian). When Marion Zischke 'B4, chair of the committee on student life of the Alumni Council, received the Young Alumni Distinguished Service Award at the council meeting on December 5,1997, Pete Zischke and Midge were present. The ceremony must have seemed familiar to Pete from that day when he picked up the Dartmouth Alumni Award several years ago.
Roger Malkin had his Scott, Miss., home featured in House & Garden in September 1996. No ordinary structure, it is a Victorian tin house in the style of Australian homes. We have to learn more about this.
Jim Weidman is seeking his second term as supervisor of the Town of Chautauqua. In his first term Jim drove the town tax rate to the lowest of all 27 towns in the county. There are several towns in our part of the state that could use this medicine.
As though John Rosenwald hasn't taken on enough in his busy life, he was just elected chair of the board of trustees of the NYU Medical Center. He joined the board in 1983. In 1995 Rosy was named Philanthropist of the Year by the New York Chapter of the National Society of Fundraising Executives.
