Jay Buckey, Dartmouth medical professor and payload specialist, was part of the Columbia space shuttle crew that launched in April, The 16-day mission tested humans' and animals' adaptation to zero-gravity. Among the experiments Buckey and his fellow crew members conducted was a test of the ability of a newborn rat to walk on Earth after living in zero-gravity. Buckey, whose areas of expertise are cardiovascular physiology, aerospace medicine, and internal medicine, is a research associate professor at Dartmouth Medical School.
