First off, a correction. Jim Donnelly worked at the Club Med Bahamas for the summer, not Tahiti. I'm sorry if Anyone headed to Tahiti in search of Jim, but hey, you were in Tahiti. I bet you had a good time.
The class of '97 now has its own web page, thanks to Emily Soden and Stephanie Yu. Check it out: .
Congratulations to Aurora Leute, who married Paul Matzkin this summer!
Emily Orzel wrote this past spring, "I'd like to raise a toast to all of us first-year teachers who made it through the year!" Her fall student teaching position became fulltime, so she spent the year teaching second grade in Norwich, Vt. She loved iteven all the finger-painting and being called "Mom."
Besides going to Aurora's and Marty Dengler's weddings this summer, Emily also took a cross-country trip with Kelly Roda, who finished up army officer training in Alabama and planned to move to Connecticut, where she will be teaching outdoor/experiential education and biology to students from the Horace Mann School. In August Emily will begin grad school for her Ph.D. in clinical/school child psychology at UVA.
Emily sent a number of updates about other people: Christie Jackson is working as a Dartmouth admissions officer; Lij Cocks, Phil Currier, and Keith Jacobsen spent last year at Thayer getting their master's; Jess Reiser is doing research at DHMC; Kristin Brenneman is working in Norwich; Dawn Lawrie is heading to grad school at UMass next year for computer science; Georgina Garcia is headed to med school; Steve Schmidt is working in NYC and heading to law school next year; Dennis Desormier is teaching math at a private school in NYC while continuing to compose music; Mike Lee is living and working in LA; Michael Fortier is in law school in Toronto and working at an environmental consulting firm for the summer; and Allen Taute is taking classes at Pomona.
Grace Kim recently sent a Dartmouth update from Korea. She said Frank Aum is doing a teaching Fulbright on ChejuIsland, Korea. Kit (Gu Hyeon) Chung is working at Citibank in Seoul.
Esther Lee is doing a research Fulbright in Seoul. And, Grace is teaching at a girls' high school in Seoul. Grace wrote: "We get together as often as we can, maybe about one a month, and Esther and I hang out at the 'Dartmouth pool hall' they have here. We also had Seoul's first official Korean alumni meeting a few months ago with the ambassador to Korea, a Dartmouth alum as well." She said Frank will stay another year to study Korean; Ku will continue his job at Citibank; and Esther is leaving at the end of July, and she'll finish up one year here and attend Syracuse Medical School this fall.
Shefali Shah recently wrote: "I survived the Boston Marathon and had such an amazing experience that I am probablygoing to run NYC as well! (If I can't get a number for that, then I will run D.C. I am hooked!) The race itself wasn't as bad as I expected, although I can barely move today." Shefali said Rachel Wellner, who is moving to Boston for the summer to work at Mass. General, came in from Connecticut to watch.
I got this message from Blaire Osgood a few months ago: "Although I'm in Chicago, my real 'Dartmouth Update' is about a gathering that took place in San Francisco. Easter weekend found me out there visiting friends. A trip to the Dartmouth Outing Club cabin in Tahoe included me, Malaika Little, Brian Larsen, Andrea Lodzieski, Chris Winship, Brady Jones, Mike Fahey, Steve Echikson, Jeff Garinger, and Pete Oberle '96. It was a weekend full of merriment and debauchery. And the excellent skiing conditions were a plus. Hoping to make it an Easter weekend tradition. Nothing better than being with old friends!"
