Hikers passing through Hanover on the Appalachian Trail normally don't draw a second look, much less a crowd. But Jacques d'Amboise wasn't just another hiker. The former principal dancer of the New York City Ballet was trekking 2,160 miles to raise money for arts education in the schools. Hanover was one of 28 towns between Maine and Georgia where d'Amboise stopped to teach his signature "Trail Dance " to anyone and everyone who showed up. Participants were asked to pledge a penny, dime, or dollar a mile—with an eventual goal of raising a million dollars.
