50th Reunion—June 9-11, 2000. OK, this is it! No more Mr. Nice Guy. For months I have respectfully asked you to write your bio sketch for the 50th Reunion book and send it, along with a photo, to Sifty Joe Medlicott. If you don't do that in the next few weeks, it ain't gonna show up in the book. Period!

Tony Ambrose's e-mail says he doubts drat he'll attend our 50th, "Not for any reason other than that I do no longer acknowledge Dartmouth as a (small 'c') college worthy of my attention or loyalty. To me, the College is in a race with Brown U. and other Ivys to make sure its outward extreme leftwing, politically-correct label is clearly and conspicuously worn to enable it to hang out with others of like ilk." Tony writes that he has retired from his New Jersey law practice, lives in Palm Coast, Fla.; continues to write big band arrangements for HowieLawrence's Westchester Jazz Ensemble, which he occasionally conducts; and enjoys his four grandchildren.

A word about obituaries, which probably are the most-read items in this magazine, along with (I hope) this intriguing column. The usual procedure upon the death of a classmate is for someone to notify the College. The Alumni Records office then sends me a notice along with copies of whatever is in the files, and I write the obit. I can do a better job of that if a relative or a friend/classmate sends me a copy of the obit that is written for the local newspaper. Better still, if you will write the obit for a classmate who has passed away and send it to me, I'll just edit it and it will be much more personal and meaningful.

Not much interest except to the three of us, but the Class Notes writers and secretaries of '48, '49, and '50 are all Phi Delts. On the other hand, I wonder if there is a message there in light of the apparent "antifraternity" attitudes of the College administration.

Plans are gelling nicely for our bigreunion in June. Next month I'll start including in this column items about specific events and other reunion news. In the meantime, if you have any thoughts, comments, or whatever, please pass them on to me or to Joel Leavitt, reunion chairman.
