I love this job. It's really special to interact with so many members of our class. I have been so happy to hear from many of you, and I hope to encourage you all to let me know what's new with you. I received an e-mail from JohnRice, who writes, "Had a fabulous time at the 45th Reunion in spite of the weather. Am looking forward to mini-reunion in San Francisco in 1999. Am living on Lake Lavon (small, 26 miles of coastline) about 20 miles northeast of Dallas. Am working about half a week, introducing extended care benefits (Medicare supplements and longterm care) to seniors, and spending most of those hours educating about all past, current, and proposed changes in Medicare. Have three of our (Helen deceased since 1983) seven children in Texas, so have been able to stay networking with them."

Thanks, John, and we'll look forward to seeing you soon.

Bob Malin reports that HowardClery, visiting in Arlington, Mass., for the 50th reunion of his high school class this October, was totally surprised and somewhat abashed during the occasion by being presented with the following proclamation: "We, the members of the board of selectmen, take this opportunity to congratulate Howard K. Clery Jr. on his many accomplishments and are pleased to designate October 24, 1998, as Howard K. Clery Jr. Day in the Town of Arlington."

This was preceded by a most impressive list of Howard's accomplishments on which this proclamation was based. Bob noted that our class had previously recognized Howard's achievements by selecting him as our Classmate of the Year in 1993. Congratulations, Howard!

And, speaking of honors, BobHenderson has been elected chairman of the board of trustees of the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston. Bob, a former trustee of Dartmouth College, has served on the board of trustees for the MFA since 1993, having been elected president thereof in 1997.

I can report to you that Butch Edgar and Warren Babcock each spent a week salmon fishing in Alaska this summer, though they were there at different times. They stayed at the Royal Wolf Lodge, located in Southwest Alaska on 120 acres in Katmai National Park. I must confess that we did not come upon this formation by the use of some wild electronic contrivance by which we follow classmates around" the globe. In truth, this lovely lodge with the beautiful name is owned and operated by Linda Branham and her husband, Chris. Linda is the sister of our first lady, Donna Reilly, and was delighted to tell Donna of their visits.

And though this item is archival by now, I could not let it pass without comment. Our "rookie" mini-reunion hosts, Vivian and Dick Cahn, welcomed 44 of our classmates and their guests to a most enjoyable gathering at their home in Wilder following the Harvard football game. The warmth and good cheer that abounded at the Cahns's stood in marked contrast to the somewhat harsh reality of the football game and the weather that afternoon and sent us all home restored. Many thanks to Vivian and Dick.
