Tim Winter, instructor of Great Issues at Dartmouth, has been granted a leave of absence for the academic year 1959-1960 to write a thesis for his Ph.D. Writing of "The Nature and Politics of Mid-Victorian Liberalism," Tim's doctorate will be awarded by Harvard University in the field of English History He will be studying under a Danforth Foundation Fellowship of one year duration. Money for the fellowship comes from the Ralston and Purina company, of which the late Mr. Danforth was a stock holder After two years in the infantry of the U. S., Army Jim graduated from the College in 1949. He received his Master's degree from Harvard in 1951. Returning to Dartmouth in 1954 as a Ford Foundation Teaching Intern in the history department, he has been an instructor in Great Issues for four years. In addition, he is an instructor in History. Tim will resume his college teaching career upon completion of his thesis.

Paul Guilderson is a new member of the Lebanon, N. H., city council, having been elected during February. Paul is married, has four young daughters, and is employed by Joseph T. Ryerson & Son steel company.

The promotion of Dick Wetherhead, geologist with Socony Mobil Oil Company of Venezuela, to Assistant to the Chief of Exploration, has recently been announced. Dick has been with the company since 1952. He was previously with the Columbian Petroleum Company. He taught at Dartmouth for a year after his graduation in 1944. Dick and his wife Charlotte live in Caracas, Venezuela.

Virginia Baisley writes of the birth of their third child Nancy Lee on March 5 of this year. She and Don have a son Billy, age 9, and son Caleb, age 20 months. The Baisleys live in Ipswich, Mass., and Don commutes, winter or summer, to Boston where he is associated with Charles T. Main Inc. as a heating and designer.

Hal Clayton is a candidate for School Committee member in Chelmsford, Mass. Tex Bussell is a Supply and Logistic consultant with Consultants and Designers, Inc. in Arlington, Va. Roy Chenderlin is with the U. S. Plywood Corp. in Tampa, Fla LouisCohen is a land developer in Bethesda, Md. Don Lewis is a pension underwriter with Nationwide Life Insurance Co. in Columbus, Ohio. He was formerly with State Mutual Life Assurance Company, and U. S. Envelope Co. Lt. Everett Myers is with the Office or Legislative Liaison, Navy Dept., Washington, D. C.
