Okay, picture this: It's a Monday evening in midNovember. During a telephone call, I'm reminded that tonight is the nightChris Miller and Phil Lord are making their debut on Caroline in the City. So, a little bit before 9 p.m., I cozy up on my futon with remote nearby...and, just as I prepare to watch, I get a phone call. And it's an important one. I can't call back later. I have to...MUTE the TV. I see Chris and Phil, but I can't hear them! Major, major bummer. I missed the whole thing.
In case you have no idea what I'm talking about, two of our classmates signed up to appear on three episodes of the NBC sitcom Caroline in the City, beginning with the Nov. 16 show. They play cartoonists who fall in love with the show's main character, Caroline, played by Lea Thompson. They also had one of their cartoons on the show. In their day jobs, Chris and Phil are cartoonists for Disney. Nice work, guys!
Christie Jackson was recently in Colorado traveling for the Dartmouth admissions office. At the same time, SaraKettler was driving cross country from Connecticut to California. Christie wrote, "We both met up with our friend, MarenStern, who lives in Longmont, Colo. It was a mini-reunion of '97s during Homecoming weekend...only a few thousand miles away from Hanover!"
Nadine Haig recently wrote from Vanderbilt University in Nashville. "I wanted to write to let all my fellow '97s know what I have been up to since 'ol Dartmouth. Last year I took a year off and lived in sunny Miami while working as a paralegal. I am now in my first year of law at Vanderbilt University and am enjoying every minute of it. I will be spending Thanksgiving with Latia Curry '98, one of my sorors from Alpha Kappa Alpha. I have seen a couple of '97s here and there and would love to hear from more people. I can be reached at ."
I got a message recently from JulieGottlieb. She said she and Rob Rogers had made it through their first year at the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston and had begun their second year.
Julie wrote, "The semester is going well after a fantastic summer off—I worked in Charleston and recreated (med school denial) with all sorts of Dartmouth folks who ventured down south to visit. Michael Roberts '96, Allen King '96, Misha Rosoff '96, and Kelley Hart spent 4th of July weekend with me, and I think they're now as hooked on Charleston as I am! DawnDelizia and Jess Russo (now working as an accountant in New Orleans and in dental school at UConn, respectively) flew down for a long weekend in July, and as luck would have it, Jenn Tudder was also in town on business. She's been working with the milk mustache campaign, but it spared her long enough for us to spend some 'quality time' together, and ChrisRhodes ended up driving in from Athens, Ga., to spend that Saturday night with us. Chris is now working with a physician in my hometown of Columbia, S.C.
"Anyway, it was great having everyone down here, and I got a kick out of my first attempts at Southern hospitality (or so I flatter myself). I hope more friends will find their way down here....Until then I'm keeping busy singing with the Charleston Symphony Orchestra Chorus, learning how to kickbox (actually quite amusing), and playing doctor." Thanks for the update, Julie.
