Spring has sprung (well, almost!). So how are your New Year's resolutions coming?? For starters, some old news, which I trust is only better by now. Guggenheim Fellowship recipient Roger Ekirch, one of only 168 across the U.S. of A. last year, and following his father, who won a Guggenheim in 1953, is exploring the 'shadowy world" in his third book, At Day's Close:Night in Times Past. According to Roger, before the nineteenth century most people slept in two phases, waking up once during the night to meditate or reflect on dreams. Gee, now I feel better after having been roused by Erika (10) or Rachel (6.5), and Trudi and I wind up meditating on how to keep 'em asleep! Roger's been a professor at Virginia Tech since 1977; let's look forward to results of his research and his fourth book. Also in academe, James Coakley was named last year to the position of vice president for finance and administration at Neumann College in Aston, Pa. James held a similar position at Daniel Webster College in Nashua, N.H.

Marty Staff was named head of Hugo Boss AG's American subsidiary, coming from his post as president and chief operating officer of GFT's Calvin Klein Men's Collection. Marty faces the task of raising recent flat volumes, and leveraging Hugo Boss's good name, as he did previously with Polo and Bloomies. I know that I'll be looking for Hugo Boss at my local Nordstrom stores! That's all from this end. Please let me know what's up, who you've seen or been wanting to see, and what's on your mind. Note my new e-mail address.
