"Rising star," "A leading crime fighter in Maryland": Stu Simms recently began his new job as secretary of the department of public safety and correctional services for the state of Maryland. Managing the 10,500-person agency and its budget of $700 million and 22,000 inmates is the latest stage for Stu's stellar, and self-effacing, career, which includes Harvard Law '75, staff lawyer for U.S. Senator Paul Sarbanes, assistant U.S. attorney, Baltimore's state's attorney ('87-'95), and secretary of the department of juvenile justice. From a fellow Baltimore native (now on the other coast), heartiest congratulations to Stu, and best to his wife, Candace and sons Paul 14 and Marcus 20.
Another '72 attorney in the news: KeithJordan announced his candidacy for the 21st judicial circuit judge position in Tennessee. Keith is still a state senator and has sponsored more than 150 pieces of legislation that became law over the past seven years dealing with issues that include child support, partial-birth abortion prohibitions, open alcohol container limitations, probate reform, restrictions on attorney solicitations, and stronger regulations in adult-oriented businesses. Keith and Judy and kids Mitchell, Allen, and Victoria live in the Grassland Community of Williamson County, Tenn.
Congrats also to Lou Fantin on his promotion to senior vice president, secretary, and counsel at Lenox International. The internal announcement of Lou's promo cited "his honesty, integrity, and 'can-do' attitude," which "make a difference every day." That's all for this time 'round. Keep writing and calling!
