...Though 'round the girdled, earth they roamed.. .Almost 200 '72 s with families and friends totaling more than 450 converged for our 25 th Reunion on June 11-15, reminding all of us why Dartmouth is indeed such a special place. Outgoing class prez Gary Dicovitsky and his sixyear crew of officers turned over the gavel to three newly elected '72 officers whose task is to guide us to our 30th in June of (shudder!) 2002: Greg Yadley, president; Chip Carstensen, returning treasurer; and yours truly, class secretary. We presented a ceremonial check for more than $540,000 to President Freedman, five times our class's best contribution. We also approved Dick Krant's well-researched class project, sponsoring a Tucker Fellowship each year and providing a '72 in that fellow's city as a mentor. Details to follow.

Thanks to his no-stone-unturned preps for the Reunion, John Burke and his team, including Dave Friend and many others, lined up memorable events for us: sports including golf, tennis, road races (runners included Max Mcgee, Jon Einsidler, Katherine and Bill Weston, Jeff Edelman, Charlie Shockey, Bill Enos, Cheryl Sullivan, Steve Shirey, Paul Oostenberg, Demetrios Papadapolis, Peter Areson, Clint Enos, Frank Sullivan, Greg Yadley, and John de Regt); kids' tent with enough distractions to let the 'rents enjoy a little time off; terrific meals at Thayer (wow no conveyer belts left!), the Bema (all pipes cleared away), the new Leede Arena, the DOC House at Occum Pond, and Storrs Pond; seminars; and a rousing songfest at the Hop featuring the Aires and our very own, Les Miz vet Wayne Scherzer.

Hanover's weather cooperated as well, showing off the brilliant white of Dartmouth Row, the kite and ambler-full Green, and those rolling green hills. A few spots sure showed their age, especially fraternity row (my own Sig Ep, if it's any example, was even worse for wear than when the Thurm Lowans scaled the roof, or Mark Foster burned the midnight oil translating his English tomes), but Baker, the expanded Hood Museum of Art, Tuck, and other venerable buildings all looked marvelous.

Ah yes, a few of us showed the 25 intervening years too.. .no, I won't point fingers here! But what the Reunion did do was show how little we actually, fundamentally, have changed. South Fayer's contingent showed up in force (John Garnett, Larry Elia, Mike Sack, Jon Einsidler, Rich Kayne, Robert Bass, Buddy Lynch, and me) remembering fondly the parietalskilling fire in our freshman year; the track and field stars of yesterday (Steve Shirey, Dennis Cullen, Mike Sack) yearned for the trails and hills around campus, and wondered where Eric Potter was.

I would like to thank Jon Einsidler for his never-missed-an-issue dedication during the past six years, helping all of us remain close with his witty and informative columns. I look forward to hearing from you about what's going on, and will share back and forth with class newsletter editor Fred Crossman, who will, as of this printing, remain our scribe. Do make note of my e-mail address below...we'll be revving up an e-mail-based correspondence as well as a '72 home page in the coming months, keeping the spirit of the 25 th Reunion as we all move ahead since...her spell on them remains.
