I'm tempted to join the chorus of responses/reactions to the administration's recent discussions about social life on campus, especially those directed at fraternities and sororities, but years ago, in a prior life as class secretary, I learned an important lesson this isn't an op-ed platform! I'd simply encourage you to listen, give the issue plenty of thought, and share your reactions respectfully with the College in other words, do the exact opposite of what yours truly did.
To launch into this month's column, I'm proud to credit Liz Mueller, who thoughtfully provided many news nuggets on various folks. Liz is stationed in San Diego, Calif., where she's a VP, business development, for a golf course architect named Mike Young. In Liz's words, Anni DupreSantry "is (doing great and has three awesome boys (you can say I said that). LeanneEberly Jordan, Dr. Jordan that is, has relocated with husband Harold to Durango, Colo., and is finally out of the air force. John Hall was married last September to long-time girlfriend Mary Lee, serenaded by (at least) Michael Bush, Mark Burget,Chris Herbert, Tracy Nickerson, and Rich Levine. John's a corporate finance jock at J.P. Morgan."
Here's a long overdue update from Douglas Dressel from down east. Doug's living in Portland, Maine, where he's been a pathologist for about six years at Maine Medical Center. Doug and wife Ina had their first child (a daughter, Christina) about ten months ago. When Doug wrote, he commented about how "exhausting" it is to have a new baby. Doug, by now Christina's probably mobile and anxious to grab anything within eyesight; that'll take your exhaustion to an entirely new level.
These news bulletins just in: from Framingham, Mass., we learn that the Rev. Stephanie Ruth Nichols was installed by tirst Parish Unitarian Universalist Church as the parish's first female minister in its near-300-year history. In Naples, Fla. word's out that Bill Burke, a partner at the law firm Bond, Schoeneck & King, has been certified as a specialist in wills, trusts, and estate law by the Florida Bar Board of Legal Specialization. Peter Kidder, of Concord, Mass., vintage, has been appointed manager
of Silicon Valley Bank's semiconductor practice. Wait. I can't just leave it at that don't you want to know why a bank is involved with semiconductors? Here's what's up: Peter's overseeing a group of bankers providing financial services to device, equipment, and electronic design automation companies. I've just confused the issue, haven't I? Time to shift to Washington, D.C., and Tim Geithner, who's been named under-secretary of the Treasury for International Affairs. Tim's been in the Treasury Department since 1988. In his newest role, Tim will advise and assist the secretary and deputy secretary on all aspects of international economic policy, This has been a pretty awesome paragraph to write. Congratulations to all four of these classmates!
Mark Stein, in his understated way, wants me to remind you to settle up on your dues. Bill Robbins has asked that I put in a "tasteful promotional plug" for his company Convergent Ventures LLC, even though I did that a few months ago. I'm on the prowl for news about Rabbi DavidStern, who's apparently doing great things down in Dallas. I'm also trying to figure out if Andy Evans is tackling Mount Everest again this spring, or if he's set his sights on another spectacular Himalayan ascent. And, if Nick Roberts allows me, there will be a nice update on him (including his wedding') in a couple of months. That's all for now keep on writing Jenny and me.
