Seems appropriate at our age to handle the medical report first. Our sterling leader, prexy Bud Hall, underwent quadruple bypass surgery last July but was doing fine and in good spirits when I talked to him following the operation. He passed on these news items: Bob Barnum, a Greenwich neighbor, has opted for smaller digs in downsizing from house to apartment, and Fred Stockwell and grandson recently trekked to Alaska. Frank Dain logged in with a report on his July 4 celebration: "Developed gigantic sweat and chest pain. Tried to play denial for a few minutes but realized this was the real thing. Bloss drove me to the ER and they had me upstairs in the cath lab in short order. Blew up their balloons and relieved the obstruction. This was followed by eye surgery for acute glaucoma." Doc Frank concludes with a tribute to the Chapel Hill area med facilities. Bing Donaldson recently had a second knee replacement and hopes to be back on the tennis court by late fall.

Charlie Cusack e-mailed that the D. Club of Oregon with a lot of young alums is "an incredibly eager group" engaging in.a wide range of activities. Not coming to this years fall mini but perhaps next year. The College sent me a blurb from the Oakland, California, Inter-CityExpresswith advice on running a small business from Henry Keck. A recent Keck-Craig Inc. invention is a motorized golf cart that can be driven on greens—it puts less pressure on the green than a human walking. Take note, senior golfers!

Fritz Geller reported that he and Nance had an enjoyable trip to Provence last April and that they attended the funeral service of Hugh Lena's wife, Edith, in June. Another new widower is George Shimizu, whose wife, Mary, passed on after an extended illness in late May. Also not previously reported in this column are three classmates' deaths: Tom Heneage a year ago and Jim Oppenheimer and Herb Gordon in July. Our sympathies to the five families. Finally in the obituary category, Bob Gray attended Frank Hartmann's memorial service held in Lyme and conducted by Jim Malley. Please note my new e-mail address below. Stay well!
