In addition to serving as our class Webmaster, Owen teaches at Duke University, where he was recently promoted to full professor of the practice of computer science. However, according to Owen, "My biggest news in the past year-plus has been the arrival of Ethan Astrachan (our son) on June 14,1999. He was born in Vancouver, Canada, so is a dual citizen."
Melanie Graves and her family spent the summer in Bolivia. The purpose of her trip was "to perform music, teach violin and to encourage the children and adults we meet to express their joys, sorrows and hopes through creating artwork and telling stories, which will be part of an exhibit at our church in the fall, and later at an organization called the Global Art Project in Arizona."
David Dietze reports that his big news is that Elizabeth "Betsy" Quilter Dietze was born 7:02 a.m. on Saturday, may 20, at 8 pounds, 11 ounces, 21 inches long, joining her big brother Billy now 2 1/2. Mom and Betsy are resting comfortably. Davids investment advisory service is expanding rapidly, and has recently launched its new Web site, www.ptview.com. David is also active in the local Dartmouth Club
Jeff Petrich writes that" We have a new addition to the family—John Stephen Petrich arrived at Arlington Memorial Hospital on April 6, 2000. His big brother Paul is now 32 months. Mother Leslie (Mead) is doing fine. Dog (Rosie) is excited. The cats are indifferent. Dad gets to spend April recess at home!" Jeff is general counsel to the Democrats in the House of Representatives.
Steve Myers has been promoted to senior vice president, secretary and chief operating officer of Fitchburg Mutual Insurance. Steve has been living in Keene, New Hampshire, for the past 20 years, so he gets to Hanover from time to time. He has four children, two teenagers and two older ones on their own. He even has two granddaughters! In addition to working and parenting, Steve competes in mountain bike races and triathlons, works on home improvement projects and serves on the board of the Thayer Symphony Orchestra and finds time to sing, too.
