Rosemary and Gene Kern in New Jersey had a luncheon visit from Abby Dorrance visiting from Brazil. She has family nearby but appreciates letters. Gene has no mobility and Rosemary uses a cane since hip replacement, so "we don't travel," but still drive at daytime. Gene is writing his memoirs; uses the internet for research. "It is much handier than my former ham-radio contacts such as with Dick D. They exchange e-mail with their four children.
Jack Greenwood left Hanover before our junior year's finals, went to sea for two years on British gypsum carriers, later
was in engineering. He keeps in touch with Betty and Boyce Price. Travel is limited to a week with a daughter in Florida. "'We don't mind the snow in Connecticut."
The new DAM editor asked for names of those involved with the Korean War. I culled these from our 50th Reunion Book: Maj. Gen. John Bouker, Bob Button,George Capelle, Gene Kern, StanOsgood, Bill Niss.
Shirley and Dave Fox celebrated their 50th anniversary in Seattle amidst their children Sally, Nancy and David Jr., grandchildren and friends. Dave died on December 12, 1999.
Class secretaries invited to Dartmouth Night lament the Texas A&M tragedy of 12 students killed in their bonfire collapse. I agree with "Aggies Against Bonfires," urging an end to their (and our) tradition, as "it wastes resources, pollutes the air and contributes to injuries and alcohol-related arrests."
News headline: "Reich to back Gore Rival for Nomination." The campaign will be in high gear when you read this. Bob Reich '68 spoke to my first Alumni Council session 30 years ago. He was Clinton's first labor secretary, the conscience of the administration.
