March 1955: Still serving our country: Bud Addis in Stuttgart, Germany; Marine Lt. Irv Sherwood at Pensacola Fla.; Lt. Karl Zimmerman at Whiting Field in Florida along with Lt. Bob Kirkpatrick; Lt. Bob Mc.Keever graduating from ammunition officers' course at Aberdeen; Lt. (jg) Don Belcher in training in Virginia; Lt. (jg) Bob Silverberg in the USS Leyte Bill Mansfield in the USS Basilone apparently beached on a sand bar off Cape Henry. Wedlock: Henry Willard to Lois King, Bob Silverberg to Robyne Home, Bob Osmond to Patricia Walton, Ed Moore to Valerie Ann Brosius, Bruce Classon to Wilma Fagin and Gene Aronow to Lee Kaufman. Getting Educated: Ben Gilson at Harvard Medical School, Norm Veasey at University of Pennsylvania Law School (and elected to Law Review). Also, John Titus and Tom Corcoran selected to represent the U.S. Olympics at Cortina D'Ampezzo, Italy, and Ev Murphy installed as pastor of the Talcottsville (Conn.) Congregational Church.

This past November the Norwalk (Conn.) Hospital Foundation honored Jerry Barton by awarding him its William J. Tracey, M.D., Award for "exemplary commitment and philanthropic leadership strengthening the hospital as a progressive leader in the healing arts." Jerry has served the hospital and its department of surgery for almost 40 years. He received his M.D. from N.Y.U., where he also completed his residency in general and orthopedic surgery. In 1963 Jerry started practicing orthopedic surgery in Norwalk and joined the hospital's medical staff. While serving as chief of the hospital's orthopedic staff, he introduced both joint replacement and arthroscopic surgery at the hospital. From 1992 to 1997 he served as a member of the hospital's board of trustees and was awarded the surgery department's Distinguished Service Award and the Frank Scallon Award for surgical innovation.

I sadly report the passing of two classmates: Jack Blum and James Greenwood. On the brighter side, Pete Bullis, Dick Danforth and Kent Klineman have been awarded the Class of '54 Award.

As previously reported, the class officers and executive committee met at Cape Cod in mid-November for a class retreat (see the class newsletter for Pete Barker's comprehensive remarks). The theme that came through all of the discussions was "How do we connect with each other?" Those of us who have had the opportunity to frequently attend class events have become aware how important and supportive our relationships with classmates have become. We have been able to share the good times and, more importantly, support each other in less than good times. The class fellowship does exist. How do we reach out to other classmates? Some suggestions: Mini-reunions outside the Northeast, new social programs—a class gathering at Alumni College during the summer (golf, tennis, hiking and some intellectual stimulation), an alumni seminar abroad as a class, sporting events. Most importantly, communicating with each other. Berlin and Barker will be sending you an "extensive" survey to gather your input.
