Ken Wright, a.k.a. Kenneth Carr Wright, M.D., moved to Charleston, W.V., more than 12 years ago after working in academic medicine at the University of Pittsburgh. Ken is now the medical director of the Medical Rehabilitation Center at Charleston Area Medical Center, with a special interest in traumatic brain injury. Spouse Barbara David Wright is a musicologist who teaches at the University of Charleston, as well as being an accomplished church organist and harpsichordist. Barbara and David celebrated their 20th anniversary in May in the company of daughters Laura, 17, Lydia, IS, and Miriam, 13. Ken writes, "West Virginia is a beautiful place, despite our bad press, and I enjoy white-water rafting, hiking and mountain biking. I frequently see Charles Kern and stay in touch with Chet and Florentine Thomas. Classmates are invited to stop by when they are in the area."
Last summer David Fuller accepted the position of producing artistic director at Jean Cocteau Repertory, an off-Broadway theater in New York City. David writes, "The company is in its 29th season of performing repertory plays of classic scope and vision using a resident acting company. This season: 'On the Razzle by Stoppard 'The Balcony' by Genet, 'The Servant of Two Masters' by Goldoni 'Edward II' by Brecht. 'Medea' by Euripedes and 'The Butter and Egg Man' by George S. Kaufman." David's ambitious repertoire, together with reviews, the company's history and ticket number is at www.jeancocteaurep.org.
John Eldredge made several attempts to communicate with me via e-mail a couple of years ago, but somehow the messages got screwed up between there and here. It might have been the distance or, for that matter, the yawning cultural chasm between Maine and Alaska. Up here, "red sox" are something your mother knits you to wear under the Sorels not a half-hearted group of overpaid amateurs pretending to be a professional sports team. But, I digress. Technology has improved, and we managed to get in touch. John writes that he is "temporarily retired, as I recently consolidated a venture I was involved with into a publicly traded company. I'm now in the process of figuring out the next opportunity. Life in Maine is good, with the notable exception of no snow at the moment. Our boys lain and Macgill are 12 and 10 and keep us busy." I've had reports from third parties: John remains an accomplished cross-country skier and is a formidable competitor on the Maine citizen race circuit.
Another Maniac (Maniacal?) responded to class president Mike Feasel's heartfelt call for "someone, anyone, please" to do a little work, "I know that it will really break everyone's heart but YES, WE HAVE A VOLUNTEER! Nancy "Fern" Bennett, formerly of San Francisco and Middle Mass Hall, now of York, Maine, has graciously offered to fill the alumni councilor position for the classes of '75 and '76 for the threeyear term, which commences July 1, 2000. Details of her financial package are pending but how about the title 'Czarina of Communication.' In the future, if the rest of you want more work, you'll have to speak up more quickly." Send your gripes and grumbles about alumni matters to nernnancy@ aol.com.
Watch this space for more news about the reunion. Anyone who is interested in helping out might start thinking about what they can do and how much time they can contribute. I'll have more details in the next few months.
Thanks again to all who wrote! Please send me news.
