"He absolutely loved delivering every baby he ever delivered." "I was heart-broken when he told me that he would be retiring." "He never yelled at the nurses or anyone. His very calm nature is very reassuring." Can these accolades really be for die Jim Penza that we knew? Of course, he came from Maine and was a brother Phi Delt, so perhaps we should not be surprised! Dr. Penza recendy retired after 30 years as an obstetrician and g)mecologist—he delivered more than 2,500 babies while practicing on the Soudi Shore of Massachusetts. Jim and Sandra, living in Hingham, Mass., have two daughters, both psychologists. Congrats, Jim, enjoy yourself, and see you in Hanover!
Staying in the medical field, Dr. RichardK. Forster, one of ophthalmology's leading authorities on infectious eye diseases and a member of Bascom Palmer Eye Institute's faculty since 1969 (University of Miami), has accepted an interim appointment as chair- man of the institute. Dr. Forster has also served as medical director of the 263-bed tertiary care eye hospital in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia (1987-1992). His impressive work at the King Khaled Hospital generated endow- ments, both globally and locally, which led to the Richard K. Forster Distinguished Chair in Ophthalmology at Bascom Palmer. Richard also has three children who are physicians!
Dick Press, with an "insatiable thirst for knowledge," recently received his master's degree in psychological counseling. Dick commuted to class, via bicycle, from his home in Boca Raton, Fla. In a class where the average age was 30, Dick was easily the oldest student! Dick is doing work in sexual dysfunction with prostate cancer support groups and gives seminars on sex and aging. I expect we'll see Dick on TV with Bob Dole before long! Dick says this new career is a long way from menswear retailing, but has certainly found a passion for a "second career."
We now have a Supreme Court justice in our midst. Joseph P. Nadeau was named to die New Hampshire court by Governor Jean Shaheen. Praising Joe, formerly chief justice of the Superior Court, Gov. Shaheen cited "his knowledge of the law, his judicial temperament and the reforms he has brought to the Superior Court." Watching Joe take the oath was wife Cathy and daughter Tina, herself a Superior Court judge.
Louis Lazar informs us that he is still enjoying management consulting with Evans, Lazar and Blue in New York City. He is embarrassed to speak of his son, Harvard '95, working in close proximity to Bob Werbel!
Bob King boasts about having lunch with Tim Rich—Tim must have paid—reports Tim is doing much traveling on family business, looks great and when home, Tim can be reached in Asotin, Wash.
Finishing on a somber note, I just received word on the passing of Carl Scliulz and Bill Hotchkiss.
I just saw the sun...time to "re-connect" with the outdoors!
