Classmates are really getting excited about our 45th reunion in June—notes come to me with brief messages, promising to "tell all" when they reconnect in Hanover. George Kelley, now retired from his law practice, and living in Bryn Mawr, Pennsylvania, has convinced his wife, Martha, to retire from teaching, and they are both looking forward to June. George was campaigning for Governor Dean and promoting his pet cause—pro-choice—for which he is on the board of Planned Parenthood.
A birthday card sent to Pon Nyong Yi elicited a prompt reply that he was attempting to finally reconnect and, perhaps, attend the reunion. He is currently living in Pasadena, California, and enjoying the good life.
From "Down Under," in Australia, fond remembrances of Hanover move Dave Marr to report on his reduced responsibilities as a professor at the Australian National University. Saying a fond farewell to committees and administrative duties, Dave is enjoying the title of "emeritus professor" while still reading and writing about Vietnam.
Another emeritus professor, Fred Webster, returned to Tuck early in the fall term—between summering in Maine and wintering in Tucson-to teach the industrial marketing strategy minicourse. After three decades of experience with the Hanover Fire Department, Fred now works with a similar group in Southport, Maine.
Peter Richmond will not be able to join us in June, but is enjoying building a new home near Kaiserslautern, Germany, with wife Tamara. Peter is now in his seventh year as a college professor, teaching accounting, finance and economics courses to military personnel for the University of Maryland's European division. Peters first fulltime teaching assignment was a three-year stint in Irkutsk (Siberia) Russia, where he taught business courses to English-speaking Russian students. Tamara is completing her masters degree in counseling. Pete and Tamara plan to continue this interesting lifestyle for the indefinite future.
A wonderful e-mail from Norm Blair, taking time to "bring us up to date." Norm is still among the working class, owning two companies in the home improvement field.. .perhaps retirement is only a couple years in the future. After Dartmouth ROTC Norm had an extended stay in Germany, joined the National Guard, then Reserve, and enjoyed 22 years of service before retiring. Norms first marriage ended after 23 years, and he lost one daughter in the 9/11 disaster. Now happily remarried, with a combined 13 grandchildren, Norm and Cecilia are enjoying their opportunity to travel. They hope to be with us in Hanover. To quote Norm: "All in all, I have had a good life." Bottom line: The class of 1959 has done well, the years have been good to us. Let's reconnect in June.
