This edition of Class Notes may or may not reach you before our 35th Reunion. I promise to have plenty of class news from Reunion in the next column, so please seek me out in Hanover during the festivities to bring us all up to date on news of you, your family, and other classmates who may not make it to Hanover.
I recently received additional news from Pete Frederick, who plans to be at Reunion. He said, "Marcia and I are living in Ric Davey's and Janet Reno's building during the week and spending just about every weekend and holiday at our home in Delaware." He goes on to say that he "would be happy to help out with class activities. After a 22-year hiatus (we left for Argentina in 1978), I am sure it is time for me to get back into the frenzy of class activities. We will be in Washington for at least two to three years and maybe longer." Welcome home, Pete and Marcia! We look forward to seeing you at reunion and hearing more details of your 22-year odyssey overseas. A copy of a note to Steve Waterhouse from Robert Ceplikas '78, program director of the Dartmouth Athletic Sponsor Program, recently crossed my desk. It was a thank you to Steve and to our class for making possible a campus recruiting trip for student-athlete Juan Romera of Eden Prairie, Minn., a soccer forward. "Thanks to your help, this talented prospect was able to gain a firsthand view of the 'Dartmouth experience.' We are pleased to report that Juan has been admitted to the College and has chosen to join the Dartmouth family with the class of 2003. We sincerely appreciate your generous investment in the athletic recruiting process. Your support is indispensable to our coaches and to our program." Our class should be very proud of its long history of consistent support of this worthwhile program.
A final reminder to please be generous toward our 35 th Reunion Alumni Fund campaign being chaired by Hank Amon,Russ Carson and Chip Hayes. All giving to Dartmouth during the Alumni Fund year beginning July 1, 1999, through June 30, 2000, will count toward the class of 1965 Reunion giving effort, but only a few days remain so you must act quickly.
An article in the March 2000 edition of the Alumni Magazine caught my attention. It was a short piece on Dartmouth's longestserving faculty members, with Jack Menge of the economics department having logged a remarkable 43 years of service as tie longest. Others included professors Gert (40 years), Spencer (39 years), Elliott (37 years), Soderberg (37 years), Bradley (36 years), McGrath (35 years), Arkowitz (35 years), Daniell (35 years), DeMaggio (35 years) and Leaton (35 years). Many of us undoubtedly took courses from one or more of these professors. It is somewhat sobering to think, however, that these 11 are all that are left from our days on the Hanover Plain. See you at Reunion. For those who cannot make it, please drop us a line to share your news.
