A recent article in the February '96 New England Printer and Publisher magazine highlighted classmate Jim Hamilton. It seems that Jim "received the accolades of his peers at the Annual Benjamin Franklin Awards Luncheon sponsored by the Printing and Publishing Council of New England. The luncheon was held at Anthony's Pier 4. At that time, the Benjamin Franklin Award was bestowed upon Hamilton for his unique and special service to the industry.
"Although he has been a tireless worker and leader on a number of committees, his special area of interest has been industryawareness. He has been active in getting information about the graphic arts into the school systems. He is currently on the Printing and Publishing Council's Industry Awareness Committee. In this capacity, he has made numerous presentations to school groups. He has worked with the Boston Craftsmen and Litho clubs in their educational efforts. He has also served on the Educational Awareness Committee of Printing Industries of New England.
"Hamilton is past general chairman of the Printing and Publishing Council of New England, past president of the Society of Printers, past president of the Young Executive Association of Printing Industries of New England, and past president of the Printing Institute of New England.
"Jim Hamilton has been associated with the same firm, Nimrod Press, for over 25 years. As an undergraduate at Dartmouth College, he studied graphic arts with Ray Nash and Rocky Stinehour. While a graduate student at Southeastern Massachusetts University, he studied with Alexander Nesbitt.
"Clearly, beginning with his days as an undergraduate student and continuing unabated over the years, this honoree has exemplified and striven to challenge and improve standards in the graphic arts industry and has advanced an awareness of the graphic arts into the community.
"The staff of NEP&P joins with the rest of the New England graphic arts community in offering our congratulations to the recipient of the 1996 Benjamin Franklin Award of the Printing and Publishing Council, James W. Hamilton."
Jim, I know I echo the sentiments of the entire class in congratulating you for this fine honor. You have not only excelled in your profession, but you have also given a lot back to both your industry and your community.
Many of you in the class are at a stage where you are contributing your time and experience in order to "give back" in a variety of different ways. I hope you will share some of these experiences with us in this column.
As we impatiently await spring in New England with thoughts of green grass, golf, and the end of presidential primaries, I hope you all noticed mention in the March Alumni Magazine of Bob Dole's comment to an overflow crowd at Alpha Delt—that he had watched Animal House the night before and "it reminded him of Congress." Enough said.
