You won't find the usual magazines in Dr. Mike Schrom's waiting room. He's passionately anti-smoking and refuses to subscribe to any publication that accepts cigarette advertising. TheAlbany (N.Y.) Times Union featured Mike, an otolaryngologist at Capital District Ear, Nose and Throat Service, in an article on how physicians encourage patients to quit smoking. Instead of People, Time and Newsweek, Mike's patients can read Smithsonian, Architectural Digest and the New York State Conservationist without see- ing any ads for products that may have caused their ailments in the first place.

A while back we mentioned that KelvinChin was leaving the arbitration business in Los Angeles to help manage an alternative health care startup in NYC. Kel reports that The Health Accord LL.C. is now located at 1133 Broadway (where it crosses Fifth Avenue between 24th and 25th streets), Suite 635, New York, NY 10010. In the heart of N.Y.C.'s "Silicon Alley," the firm is hiring staff (e.g., Web techies, editors, writers), so if you are interested, contact Kel at prosper16B@aol.com. Kel reminded me that the firm is doing not only alternative health care, but also the entire range of human potential ("body, brain, heart, soul stuff').

A1 Frawley is practicing intellectual property law in Augusta, Maine, with the firm of Preti, Flaherty, Beliveau, Pachios & Haley, LL.C. The firm has offices also in Portland and Bath. AI attended Maine Law School and later received a LL.M. in taxation from Georgetown University Law Center. His area of practice includes trademarks, brands and copyrights in cyberspace. Al's article "True Colors," which discusses how color can be an effective source identifier and trademark, appeared in the September 1999 issue of American Journalism Review.

Yale Law professor Kate Stith's book Fear of Judging: Sentencing Guidelines in theFederal Courts (University of Chicago Press, 1998), co-authored with spouse Judge Jose A. Cabranes of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Second Circuit, received a favorable and informative review in the February 2000 issue of the Federal Bar Association's journal The Federal Lawyer.

The Boston Globe followed Congressman Mike Capuano during a visit to the East Boston portion (almost half) of his constituency, the 8th Congressional District in Massachusetts. Mike toured the area with its mayor Thomas Menino, a former rival, now friend of Mike, who was mayor of Somerville. With his first re-election campaign coming this fall, Mike is staying in touch with the people of his district.

Stay in touch with your class secretary and enjoy the summer.
