Some good news and some sad news about two classmates mentioned in last issue's Class Notes. By now most of us have heard or read that Leon Black, founding principal of the private equity investment firm Apollo Management LP, has been elected as a charter trustee by the Colleges board of trustees. Congratulations to Leon, who will continue his legacy of service to Dartmouth in this important position.

I am sad to report that Gregg Brown, a leader in the California homebuilding industry, died in Riverside on March 13 from complications following a heart procedure. Gregg's obituary will appear in this or a future issue.

I visited with Kevin and Judy O'Shea during ayouth soccer tournament in Elmira, New York, that our children were playing in. Kevin, an attorney, was gearing up for labor negotiations as the human resources director for the Elmira City school district. Judy is a state court trial judge. Daughter Molly attends Niagara University. Daughter Margaret is in her first year at Leheigh University. Daughter Tara is a ninth-grader and a member of a state champion premier soccer team.

Jerry Birch has spent nearly 20 years in the corporate contract furniture business. He received an M.B.A. from Chicago University and worked for a time as a Price Waterhouse accountant before starting his own office furniture business. Jerry's success was recognized in 1989 by Inc. Magazine that named him Entrepreneur of the Year. Now he is launching a new business marketing office furniture for "telecommuters," retired executives and consultants who work out of their homes. Jerrys latest venture, Studio SoHo, is located in downtown Cleveland in a renovated warehouse and features upscale small/home office solutions.

Assistant district attorney Bill Fallon, a veteran prosecutor who oversees sexual assault and child abuse cases in Essex County, has been named Prosecutor of the Year by the Massachusetts District Attorneys Association. He earned his law degree at Boston College and has worked for the Essex County DAs office since 1979. Bill is a regular guest on New England Cable News and has appeared frequently on Court TV.

Frank Jorgensen is president and a partner at Glade Springs Resort in Summersville, West Virginia. Glade Springs is a 4,100-acre planned unit development in the Appalachian highlands. It will include gated residential areas, golf courses, recreational facilities and a business center.

Barry Grove, executive producer of the Manhattan Theatre Club (MTC) in New York, was a guest speaker at the Dartmouth Club of New York City Centers of Influence series. Barry discussed the early Dartmouth influence on his career, the evolution of the MTC, the production of plays off and on Broadway and the plans for the new Biltmore Theatre.

Make your own plans for the upcoming production of our 30th Reunion (June 13-15, 2003) in which you will all have leading roles.
