"Wonderful affair!" writes president Chuck Reilly of the '53 Man of the Year presentation. "The presentation to co-winner Jim Boen was made at the Minnekhada Country Club on Saturday, May 13. All arrangements were made by Norm Carpenter, and he did a super job. Classmates in attendance were Bob MacNally, Gus Allen, Dick Joslin, Norm Carpenter, my wife, Donna, Jim and his wife, Dorothy. I read the official citation written by Don Goss, and then Jim responded. His response left no doubt in any of our minds of the great strength, fortitude and perseverance that Jim possesses. To have achieved all that he has intellectually, professionally and physically (including big-game hunting!) as a quadriplegic since sophomore year at Dartmouth is truly awe-inspiring. What a guy!"
My mail brought me a description of the SF Y2K '53 super reunion from Bob Callender. "Fantastic!" writes Bob. On the first night, Chuck Reilly presented the '53 Co-Man of the Year Award to Bob Derzon, citing, among his many accomplishments, Bob's service in municipal, state and federal governments and in the private sector in bringing better health care to millions of people, his service to Dartmouth and of his altruistic endeavors. Cal continued with a report of the hikes, lectures, a trip to a winery and then a wonderful visit to the fabulous Bohemian Grove, where they were entertained and enjoyed an outstanding dinner, concluding the following day with a tour of Sonoma Town and Jack London's ranch and dinner at the Benzinger Winery. Joining Bob were Alice and Forrest Anderson, Marilyn and Neil Bersch, Marion and Put Blodgett, Dick Blum, Norm Carpenter, Ginger Esty and Fred Chase, Dolores and Leo Clancy, Dona and Elton Clark, Mary and Bruce Cole, Margo and Bob Derzon, and JoAnne and Tom Dixon. In addition Butch Edgar, Dick Fleming, Gay and Tony Frank, Connie and Dick Giesser, Dickjoslin, Liliane and Ron Lazar, Audrey and Dick Loewenthal, Gail and Bob Malin, Helen and Tom McCrea, Zeta and Don McMichael, Rosemary and Burt Melcher, Peter Reich, Donna and Chuck Reilly, Virginia and Wade Sherwood, Nancy and John Thornley, Jean and Bill Vitalis, Lori and John Wortley, Bob Yates, and Jody and Jack Zimmermanin attended, as well as Peter Zischke '52.
