Ray Holtorf has been quite a busy guy. He is the chair of the 5th District of the Reform Party of lowa and is running against Congressman Tom Latham for the office of the 5th District U.S. representative in lowa. His top priority is promoting lowa's agricultural products and increasing value-added manufacturing in his native state. While he's working his way up the political scene, Ray serves as director of human resources for Woodruff Construction of Ames and Fort Dodge. Charlotte Gerstein got married last August in Berkeley. She and her husband live in Berkeley, and Charlotte is a reference librarian in the Benecia Public Library. Sam and Leslie Zales welcomed Grace Lila on April 27. "Grade's been unbelievably great in the first weeks of life," said Sam, "and I don't know how she is so low key with a father like me. I'm just hoping she has Leslies looks." Annelie Chapman received a Charles E. and Sue K. Young Graduate Student Award at UCLA for her outstanding work in Slavic languages and literatures. In her dissertation Annelie examined how the language in recent Polish and Russian commercial advertisements may be manipulated to target male and female consumers. As a teacher Annelie applies instructional technology and draws upon her previous experience as co-founder of a software company to develop Internet-based assignments that supplement the first-year Russian language curriculum at UCLA. Outside of academics Annelie is a competitive cyclist and will race in regional as well as national cup events. Shep Kopp and his wife, Lisa Ryan '87, are the proud parents of Lily Kopp, born May 26,1999. The Kopps live in Venice, California. Quentin Kopp '49 is one grandpa, and the other is John Ryan '58. Shep's a criminal defense lawyer with Geragos & Geragos of downtown L.A. Lisa is a successful photographic artist. Mike Tonneson became vice president of business development at eFax.com earlier in the year. He came from Tavolo.com and before that Dove Consulting. Bill Furlong jumped ship at Microsoft, where he was most recently product unit manager for MSN eShop, to become CEO of Mountain Travel Sobek in El Cerrito, California, a leading provider of adventure trips. Jeff rey (Jones) Morrison proposed to his sweetheart during a flyfishing trip. The wedding is set for October 7 in Norwalk, Connecticut. Both are teachers at Green Farms Academy. Mae Drake and John Hueston are at it again; they announced the birth of Kinsdale Drake Hueston in March. Kinsdale joins Tara (13) and Ryan (7). The baby was named after a town by the ocean in the south of Ireland (County Cork) where they learned of the good fortune. Shane Swift wrote to say that Annabelle Jane joined Severn James (3) in June 1999. Shane is vice president for strategy and sales at Material Net.com, a Denver-based firm that is changing B2B raw materials procurement, especially in the metals industry. Ken Lof-tus tus is stationed in Okinawa as head of optometry in the U.S. Naval Hospital. His family includes wife Melissa and daughter Helena (2). The Loftus family looks forward to two more years there. Mike Ackerman answered my call for the same-company-for-the-longest-time question. Mike joined Morgan Stanley on June 16,1986, and has been there ever since. He has served in the IT department in various locations (NYC, L.A., London and Hong Kong). He currently heads the IT department in Asia. Also, Mike and his wife, Sara, welcomed their first child, Rachel Emma, on April 11 in Hong Kong. Can anyone beat that?
