Doing our part to build a wave of momentum for our 25th reunion—a mere eight months away when this is published- The members of the class of 1977 of Greater Louisville, Kentucky, held a mini-reunion this summer. That is to say, Bob Connolly and I had lunch. Since Mike Carter and Scott Latimer have left our fair city, our numbers have declined but not our enthusiasm.
Bob has become a leading expert on bourbon warehouse infernos, a specialty unique to the Bluegrass State. A bourbon warehouse is a seven-story wooden cube filled from floor to ceiling with thousands of oak barrels containing a 43-percent alcohol solution. Every so often, a warehouse catches fire. Imagine a bonfire occupying half of the Green, with flaming barrels skyrocketing across the evening sky and exploding. Then an aromatic wave of flaming bourbon flowing across the terrain, incinerating everything in its path, until reaching a nearby river. The alcohol depletes the oxygen in the river, resulting in a massive fish kill and a different aroma. And that's when they call Bob.
Betsey Cox Stebbins is delighted that her daughter transferred into the class of '04 in September, following the requisite "transfer trip" to Moosilauke. Her grandfather, a '51, Tu'52, may be the happiest of all.
That's all I have. Be sure to check out the class Web site for more reunion information.
