Carol Muller, founder and executive director of MentorNet, was honored at the White House in December when MentorNet received the 2001 Presidential Award for Excellence in Science, Mathematics and Engineering Mentoring. After directing Dartmouth's Women in Science Project, Carol moved on to Silicon Valley in 1997 to create the leading edge e-mail and Internet network that links women engineering and science students with professionals in these fields. The program now serves more than 115 academic institutions with more than 6,000 students and mentors participating. Carol was accompanied by Amy Muller '78, chair of MentorNet s board and former North Mass Girl.
The first weekend in March is Club Officers Weekend, my annual opportunity to see the campus snowscape and catch up with Mike Carter and Scott Axford '78. This year I was joined by Bob Connolly and got the real lowdown from downtown Greentown from Bobs daughter, Kelley '55.
Over the holidays Jim Washington and Mike Carter got together with Caldwell Gaffney for some holiday cheer. Much food and beer was consumed that evening, so much so that everyone stayed over at Caldwell's house until the next morning. Caldwell's older son graduated from Georgetown Prep last June and is now a freshmea at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pennsylvania. Caldwell III is also the second-string fullback on the football team. Jim's son is a pretty good football player for his team in Silver Spring, Maryland. He is a junior.
The evening of September 11, 2001, Caldwell and Mike checked on fellow classmate Steven White in NY City. He now works for an investment firm in mid-town Manhattan. Armond Enos and Debbie Clarke-Enos are in the Boston area. Armond has a dental practice there and is busy with his sons and their athletic activities. Mike believes there maybe a couple of runners in the family besides Armond.
Karen Sweat commutes between Philadelphia and New York City these days. Karen is on her way to Kansas City for a new job in gas and public utilities.
