Class Act
Nov/Dec 2001

The class of I960 continues to brighten dorm walls. For the llth consecutive year, the class has bought artworks produced by graduating studio-art majors for display in dorms and other buildings around campus. The Purchase Awards, anounced at a May reception that attracted more than 650 students, faculty and local art buffs, ranged from $200 to $700. "This kind of thing really validates your work," says artist Beth Malct? 01, who sold a wall-hanging sculpture for $300. "In studio art you're taught how to do professionally something that is often seen as a leisure activity. An event like this makes you feel legitimate as an artist, which makes pursuing a career in art much more realistic."
