"Out" is the cry resounding from the granite hills of New Hampshire. It's the call to assemble in Sarasota for the fourth Florida mini-reunion Wednesday and Thursday, March 13-14. Rooms have been reserved at the Best Western Golden Host Resort, (800) 7224895. Your name will be added to the list attending the evening banquets; you can send $40 per person to your secretary for the two meals and incidentals. Besides the '41 fellowship you can enjoy activities such as golf, swimming, shuffleboard, visits to marine aquarium, art museum, botanical gardens, jungle animal show and fancy shops. Don't delay in joining the crowd.
Excessive distance will prevent Stace and Kay Hill from attending the mini, but they sent Christmas greetings from their home base in Oregon, where Stace loves his golf and Kay keeps busy with garden and symphony good works. They are visiting a daughter in Chicago for Christmas and another daughter in Colorado in February.
Felix Lilienthal and Rae reported their plans to visit New Orleans for a family gathering that will include three children, seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Felix recalled the great 60th reunion in Hanover and especially a very pleasant interlude on the Inn veranda with George Middendorf, the New York textbook publisher. Sadly, Georges sudden death was reported in October.
Another great loss to the class was the passing of Gus Broberg in November. The great outpouring of admiration expressed at the memorial service in Palm Beach was testimony to Gus's special place in the hearts of his family and many friends. Among those attending his services were Unc Richardson, Snuffy Smith and Monk Larson, who conveyed the class' condolences to Stewart and the Broberg children Kristin and Peter.
On a happier note I had a nice talk with John Hands after I noted that he had retired to Jericho, Vermont, the same small town called home by my daughter and her family. John is active in duplicate bridge and he walks with his wife, Virginia, despite her arthritic condition.
Let me wish all good 41s a belated happy holiday season and a more peaceful and hopeful year in 2002.
