It's summer in New England. The air is warm, the grass is green and for those of us lucky enough to be by the water, the ocean waves lull us gently to sleep each night as they end their long journey across the Atlantic on our beaches and rocky coastline. The smell and feel of summer remind us that hope remains alive and that among people of good will, peace can never be that far off. I hope that in our lifetime we will see more of it. For the moment, we have summer to cherish.

In Hanover graduation is over and a new class will soon matriculate to join our ranks. It's been a good year for Dartmouth admissions and the new class promises to bring new life and energy to our institution, adding future composers, inventors, scientists, novelists, artists, athletes, philosophers, doctors, humanitarians and yes, lawyers, to our ranks. And of course, this means a capital campaign can't be too far behind. The College remains a wonderful institution which we can all be proud of.

And now to some news. Charles Glovsky, a senior vice president of Independence Investment LLC, announced the launch of Independence's small cap strategy fund, which Independence acquired last year. Charles is the portfolio manager for the fund. Independence Investment, founded in 1982, manages more than $20 billion in equity and fixed income assets and is an affiliate of John Hancock Financial Services Inc. Good luck, Charles. Don Drakeman was recently profiled in New Jersey Business News. Don is the CEO of Medarex and is quite active in New Jersey and his community.

And in the world of Venture Capital, comes news that Zenas Hutcheson was named one of St. Paul Venture Capital's two managing general partners. Zenas joined St. Paul in March of 1998 as a general partner and led the firms investing activities in communication technologies. Zenas succeeds Patrick Hopf, who founded St. Paul in 1988. St. Paul is one of the largest early stageventure capital funds in the United States with $3.0 billion in committed capital. Congratulations, Zenas.

That's all for now. Enjoy your summer and keep those cards, e-mails and letters coming.
