West Coast greetings! As I take over the electronic quill from Bob Conway I can only hope to discharge my duties as adroitly as he did lo these many years. Please help by sending me your news to share.
A bit more on the reunion: Moosilauke hiker Rick Idler is physically fit enough to carry his non-toddler son most of the way. This is a byproduct of his serving as a physician on various expeditions at high altitudes around the world when he is not busy as a hand surgeon in Indianapolis. At the reunion row the class was well represented by Paul Gross (bow); Woody McGinnis' wife Julia; Ken Swinski; Sandy Rosner; Val Armento; Eric Struhsacker; Bob Haynes; and Chip Hughes (stroke), as the '73 shell traversed the placid though overcast Connecticut and finished strong before cheering crowds at the boathouse. Mary Allen Stif ler, director of development and public relations at the Stern Learning Center for Language and Learning in Burlington, Vermont, drove down solely for Saturdays women's breakfast, spearheaded by Marie Shaffer. Although he lives in Sunnyvale, California, the community for which I work, I finally met Stan Arend at our class tent in front of Mass Hall. Stan moved to the San Francisco Bay Area from Boston five years ago and is the director of accounting for the San Mateo County Transit District, which runs both buses and commuter rail service.
Tom Wolfson, minister-counselor for political affairs at the U.S. embassy in Berlin, Germany, and his wife, Elizabeth Moberly Wolfson, also a U.S. foreign service officer, celebrated their 30th wedding anniversary in June. They will be transferring back to Washington this year. Also in the ranks of Foreign Service senior executives, Tom reports, are Steve Buckler and Frank Ricciardone, U.S. ambassador in the Philippines. Anne Derry Whidden and her husband are moving to Melbourne, Australia, for three years and extend an invitation to any '73s passing through.
Those in the Boston area may want to try and find Bob Glovsky on their radio dial at WBIX Business 1060 AM. He's the director of Boston U's program for financial planners. There are numerous state and federal legislators who could probably use his advice these days.
