Hearty congratulations to Geeta Anand, a health and science reporter for the Wall Street Journal who won the Pulitzer Prize last spring in the category of explanatory journalism. Geeta and other Journal reporters received the prize for a series of stories about corporate scandals. She joined the WSJ in 1998 after a stint with the Boston Globe as its city hall bureau chief. One of her winning articles revealed how Wall Street analysts were sneaking into clinical drug trials, pretending to be doctors or sick patients, to gain information. The other involved disgraced Imclone CEO Sam Waksal.
Our kudos also go to Andrea Lloyd, an assistant professor of biology at Middlebury College, who won the annual Perkins Award for Excellence in Teaching. Andrea has taught at Middlebury since 1996. Her classes include "Introductory Ecology" and "Plant Ecology."
Harvey Fracht has joined Penn State's Medical Center as an assistant professor of ophthalmology. He did his residency and fellowship training in New York and Philadelphia and most recently was the director of the Hagerstown Laser Center in Maryland.
Destry Sulkes, who managed to get a joint M.D. and also works in the field of ophthalmology. He's the new managing director of the East Coast headquarters for Medsn, a medical and healthcare marketing and education company.
Josh "J.J." Adler writes from New York City, where he is a talent agent in voice-overs at Abrams Artists Agency. Josh lives in Hoboken with his wife Jessica and two cats.
David Hammond and his wife, Chris, welcomed son, Logan Taylor, on Easter Sunday. The baby clocked in at 8 pounds, 10 ounces and 21 inches long. David says think power-hitting lanky left fielder. Logan joins big sister Sarah, who is 2. Davids public television documentary, Sprawlingof.America, was nominated for six regional Emmys and won two. He recently left the Michigan Sports Network and runs his own sports marketing firm, The Hammond Group. Also in the baby depart ment, Caroline Kelly Moser came into the world a few weeks early on August 9. She joins big brother Peter and parents Linda Kelly and Kurt Moser, who live in Alexandria, Virginia.
Tammy Krutchkoff resides in L.A., where she works as an agent for film composers and music supervisors, running a London-based agency called Air Edel. She loves the job and gets to work with a lot of her old rock idols, like Joey Santiago (the guitarist from the Pixies), Ray Manzarek and Ray Davies. She hangs out with Justine Klineman, who's been acting in theater and has been in some high-profile commercials. She also sees Adam Glick, who works at WBTV in business affairs and has two children. And Tammy reports that Leslie Timothy is writing novels and screenplays and was planning a move from New York to L.A.
Jessy Berg writes from the Bay Area, where she is a landscape designer, running her own business in residential garden design. She's based in Menlo Park. She caught up recently with Jenney Schofield Porteus, who was finishing up at Boalt Law School and has a son, Wilson. Also joining them was Malaika Stoll, who has a new daughter, Laila, and was finishing up medical school at Stanford.
Greg Williams says he loves being near Dartmouth. He lives an hour south in Goffstown, New Hampshire, where he's been working for one of the "struggling dot-com companies left over from the big bubble of the 19905." He says he's on the lookout for a new career after 10 years with the "Internet/Wall Street revolution." Greg and his wife, Darlene, have two daughters, Audrey and Elise.
Wendy Phillips lives in San Mateo, California, and is a partner at Advent International, a venture capital firm that she first joined in 1991. She focuses on software investments and says she is surviving a tough few years in the technology and venture capital industries. She has two little boys, Jack, 3 and Evan, 1. She says that instead of honing her skills on the tennis court these days, she's becoming an expert in constructing Thomas the Tank Engine train tracks. She says she's lucky to have a wonderful husband with flexible hours, who even likes cooking dinner! All she needs now is a good night's sleep.
