Maribel Bastian and Aaron Sandoski finally tied the knot at the Museum of Dance in Saratoga Springs in May. A true Dartmouth wedding (Maribels dad, Bryce Bastian '54, is also an alumnus), I think the couple set a record for Dartmouth alumni in attendance at the wedding. The 96s who braved the rainy weather included Christopher and Yeng Felipe-Cho, Enrique Colbert, Elizabeth Coleman, Christina (Montgoris) Danforth, Jenny Ellis, Noah Goldberg, Kimberley Sanderson- Hutfliz, Tony Mamone, Jorge Motoshige, Joseph Parlavecchio, Greg Richards, Tyler Stableford, Cindy Weigle and yours truly. Other alumni included David Martin '54, Dick Brown '66,Jamie Watkins 'B4,Teru (Bower) Clavel '95, Adriana McGrath '95 and Sarah Cho '97.
Herman Chiang also made it official this past July when he wedded Heather Dystrup in Evanston, Illinois. Dartmouth alumni in attendance included Greg Obenshain, Cameron van Orman, Ingrid Shieh and Grace Chan '94. Herman recently graduated from Kellogg's M.B.A. program. He and Heather are now in the Boston area, where Heather just started Harvard Business School.
Kathleen Rose was another '96 who got married this past summer. Michele Chang (maid of honor) Christina Hsieh, and yours truly were in Kirkland, Washington, to witness the happy nuptials. Kathy married Mason Hart aboard the M.VKirkland, cruising Lake Washington during sunset. The couple resides in Houston.
Karyn Bysshe Vella and her husband, Joe, had their first baby girl. Emma Mildred Vella, also known as "Middy," arrived four days early on june 3, after about 15 hours of labor. Grandparents Beth and Bob Bysshe '63 ensured that the 20.5 inch, 7 pound, 4 ounce bundle of joy received her first Dartmouth sweatshirt immediately.
Karyn is currently the director of the Brophy Sports Campus, for Brophy College Preparatory, in Phoenix, Arizona. Karyn has run the 10-acre facility for the all-boys Jesuit high school since November2oo2. Karyn recently caught up with Deb Whitney, who is working at the Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs. Karyn also relayed news that "Cynthia Roberts Blouch gave birth to their second baby, Katelyn Blouch, in late January. Lauren Demski is working hard at G.E., plans to finish her M.B.A. nextyear and is engaged. And, Annie Soutter and Travis Horton are tying the knot in Sisters, Oregon, in early August." If anyone is headed to Phoenix, contact Karyn at: kbvella@ hotmail.com.
Rebecca Skinner recently e-mailed from Kodiak, Alaska. After graduating Vermont Law School in 2001, Rebecca returned to Kodiak to join the law firm of Cole and Razo, LLC. She doesn't see very many alumni in Kodiak, but visits Rolf Dagg '94, who lives in Anchorage. Let Rebecca know if you're in or heading to Alaska.
Miriam Cherry also writes in with news. After working at two law firms in Boston (and, sadly, getting divorced), she decided to enter academia. As assistant professor of law at Cumberland School of Law in Birmingham, Alabama, Miriam teaches contracts, law and literature and employment law. She kept busy this summer with the move, buying a house, going to conferences in London and D.C. and working on an article. Miriam also reports: "Hal Lieber is at Ford, enrolled at MIT, and has a new house in the suburbs of Detroit; Dave Robinson is doing incredibly important and esoteric physics and chemistry research in New York. And I finally saw Jeff Moore when he was in Boston. Jeff is now backon the West Coast and continues to perform stand-up comedy in laundromats."
That's it for now. Write/e-mail me if you want to be included in the next issue.
