Big Picture: Sink or Swim?

Jt was supposed to be the end of swimming arid diving at Dartmouth. But in the wake of the College s November decision to eliminate the mens and women's programs due to budget cuts, a series of unexpected events unfolded, among them f a protest by 600 students in Parkhurst, th* solicitation of a financial savior for the teajnis on eBay, and an outpouring of alumni outrage. Then came donations. A rescue plan. And a resuscitation. Thanks to some generous alums and 01 her donors (sefkwww/b-k-ind.com/dartmouth/fundraising/results.htm) the teams were reinstated on January 8. "Recruiting may be a little more challenging this a year," says men's coach Jim Wilson, "but we'll get through it."
