Late February thaw—not Hanover at its best—however, April is most often beautiful.
We have received news of Dan Luten's death on January 18. He was devoted to the College and the class, serving both by holding various offices through many years. He took great pride in his record as longest consecutive donor to Dartmouth, from graduation till death. We extend our sympathy to Dans family.
This year Dartmouth won its own carnival for the first time since the mid-'80s, and there was plenty of snow for all races—even a most respectable statue on the Green, and others around the campus.
From Rip:
I'm looking for averse somehow To spring all sudden from my brow, (As legend says Minerva did from Zeus'). But, no, it doesn't work that way I have to sweat and strain today And only thus propitiate the Muses. And after writing words like these Perhaps I'm only wasting trees!
