Leonard Chang has a new novel coming out in May from St. Martins Press. Titled Underbill, it is about a couples deteriorating love affair amidst an investigation into a suspicious death. For more information, check out www.leonardchang.com: "Underkill is a very fine novel and Leonard Chang grows more impressive with each book. I thought Over the Shoulder was a stand out and now Allen Choice is back in a story even more stirring and absorbing. The key is character. Chang works like a painter, carefully brushing strokes of truth and depth on all of his characters. This portrait is a winner," writes Michael Connelly, author of City of Bones.

Sarah Barton Gardella writes: "Matt and I had our second baby this past October, a little girl we named Bridget Powers Gardella. Since I was still in the hospital, our 2-year-old son, Barton, missed his annual visit to Hanover for Homecoming! In December Matt joined Boston law firm Palmer & Dodge as a partner and continues his law practice in securities, in particular, Section 16. We visited the Blackburn family this past summer in Seattle, getting all our kids together, and have plans to see Anne and Jeff again this April in Del Mar, California." The Barton-Gardella clan calls Newton, Massachusetts, home.

"The big news from me is on December 20, 2002, Governor Bill Owens appointed me district attorney for the Fifth Judicial District of Colorado," writes Mark Hurlburt. "I am serving out the last two years of my predecessor s term and will stand for election in 2004 for my own four-year term. The Fifth J.D. is comprised of four counties (Summit, Lake, Clear Creek and Eagle) in the mountains. This includes the towns of Vail and Breckenridge."

From the "You get all kinds of interesting mail when you're class secretary" file: The Observer-Dispatch of Utica, New York, reported on December 31, 2002, that John Owens was named a shareholder in the general trial practice of Fowler White Boggs Banker. John is based in the firm's West Palm Beach office and his practice areas include insurance defense, civil rights, governmental defense and sports law. Nutter McClennen & Fish announced on January 17 that Alex Glovsky was elected partner. His practice is concentrated on corporate and securities law. Alex resides in Ipswich, Massachusetts, with wife Cheryl and sons Nicolas and William.

Proliferation update: Scott Mintie Gray and Amy Shang welcomed Andrew Sutherland into the world on February 7. Mom, dad and baby are doing well in N.Y.C. Randy and Maris Friedman are proud to announce the birth of Coby Benjamin (a.k.a. "R3") on February 25. He weighed in at 7 pounds, 3 ounces after a leisurely 12-hour labor. AJ and Megan Winters Johnson were expecting the birth of their second child on St. Patrick's Day. Karen White got some skiing in at Whisder in February and reported that she and husband David Horn are expecting their first child. In preparation, they have reluctantly forsaken San Francisco for the more kid-friendly Woodside, California. Rich and Amy Winter are also expecting their first child in June. Big points to them for making the Phish New Year's Eve show at Madison Square Garden.

Finally, I'm sorry to report that Kirsten Lorentzen passed away on December 28,2002. Further information can be found in the obituary section of this issue and in the winter 2003 class newsletter at www.alum.dartmouth.org/ classes/91/newsletter.html.
