Did you know that we have a figure skating team at Dartmouth? Yes, we do, and it is supported by the Class of 1940 through Stet Whitcher's financial contributions. A Christmas card from Meg Schaller (an Alumni College classmate of Stets) started correspondence about Emily Schaller and the women's figure skating team at Dartmouth. Three seniors wanted a team at Dartmouth so they could compete with other colleges on a national basis. First they went to the athletic department requesting ice time. They were turned down flatly—a team must be organized and recognized by the College. They recruited four other skaters, including Emily, to become a team. This small group entered competition and qualified for the nationals as one of three representatives from East Coast colleges. Great, but no money to get to the University of Miami in Ohio. An appeal to President Wright paid off: round-trip tickets. The Dartmouth team finished second against five colleges where figure skating was a varsity sport. Stet asked if he could give the team a little financial boost and has continued financial support. The team has grown to 12 bright and spirited young ladies who responded by qualifying for nationals four years in a row. Emily Schaller has graduated and is studying for an advanced degree at Cal Tech under a multi-year grant from the National Science Foundation in planetary geology and is skating. Stet says: "I consider this to be one of my investments in the College and her students, one that is returning dividends."

Lloyd Blanchard was pleased to receive a class birthday card, saying: "At our age each birthday is a major victory. Should start planning our 65 th reunion but a little early to think about commitments."

From Chal Carothers to Stet: "The fact that we ended the year with a surplus shows we're a great class. Special vote of thanks to you for your leadership as class treasurer!"

Bud Hewitt passed on a thank you note from Cathy Dunford for the memorial gift Bud sent in Joe's name. Bud reported that his wife, Louise, has a special walker. It has changed her whole life around the house.

Cub Scouts in Avon, Connecticut, held their The Blue and The Gold Banquet on March 15. I was honored to be invited as the oldest Eagle Scout—1934. Send me a postcard telling when you made Eagle.

Send a postcard telling where and when you worked in the Hanover eating places—Commons, Thayer, etc.
