The mini-reunion on October 3-4 is fast approaching. Be sure to get your tickets to the Penn game if you are coming. It promises to be a wonderfulweekend with another chance to visit with old friends and classmates.
Another addition to the ranks of "the movers" in our rapidly moving class. Laura and Jim Rendall are planning a move later this year to a retirement community. They were in the midst of selling their house and all the other details required. How many of you have moved from the old homestead to one of these new (assisted living facility, life-care, continuing care, etc.) homes? I'd be interested in hearing from you.
Received a welcome call from Stu Finch back in the winter. He and Pat had just returned from California, where they visited with family over the holidays—one of the shorter trips for this well traveled couple.
From Bethesda, Maryland, Merrill McLane sent a copy of his third and newest book on Spain, Odyssey in Spain. He notes that it was written in memory of another Dartmouth man, George Ticknor, class of 1807, who was Harvard's first professor of Spanish and French and who had Emerson as one of his students. Mac has traveled extensively in Spain since the 1970s and his knowledge of the people and their land is obvious in this book.
A note from the first lady, Mary Kirk, reports on their trip to California late last year, with avisit to Jackie and Dick Higgins "in their lovely house in San Diego." Dick also mentioned the visit from the Kirks: "It was all the more special as Bobs birthday was on October 21, in the middle of their stay. We had a small party...on which occasion Bob was given a token of the event acknowledging his...class presidency—a Dartmouth sweat shirt with the lettering on the back: 'Bingo Bob—Prexy'42.'" (Let's see if we can get him to wear that at the mini-reunion in October.)
The Kirks saw Jane and Dave Heald at the Harvard game and at Homecoming Dave and Bob rode in the Healds' car, with the 1942 banner prominently displayed, to the cheers of about 1,000 spectators. Mary also reported that Bob Searles had been in the hospital with a heart problem, but sounded very upbeat on the phone.
