Congratulations to Robert Fieldsteel, winner of the Los Angeles Drama Critics Circles Ted Schmitt Award for the World Premiere of an Outstanding New Play for his offbeat historical drama Crazy Drunk. The production broke the house box office record at [inside] the Ford (formerly the "second stage' of the Mark Taper Forum).

Three of our classmates have recently published books. Jim Lattin (who recently received a chaired professorship at Stanford Business School; he is now the Robert Magowan Professor of Marketing) is celebrating the publishing of his long-awaited book, Analyzing Multivariate Data (Duxbury Applied Series). Rick Beyer is the author of The Greatest Stories Never Told:100 Tales from History to Astonish, Bewilder and Stupefy. Rick professes to be "pretty excited by the fact that this is the only book in print with the word stupefy' in the title." Ricks friend Bill Vogele, a history professor, says each story has "just enough information to be interesting, but not enough that you can really screw it up by being wrong.'

Scott Brown has published a book that I could have used much sooner: How to Negotiate with KidsEven When You Think You Shouldn't. Apparently there are seven essential skills to end conflict and bring more joy into the family. I hope it's not too late to apply these skills with my teenagers! Scott helped launch the Harvard Negation Project, after which he spent 10 years teaching, writing and speaking about managing conflict. He established the nonprofit Conflict Management Group to advise governments and nongovernmental organizations on public conflicts worldwide.

My next (and last) column will be overflowing with a post-reunion wrap-up, as well as any other news you can send!
