On Monday, July 23, tragedy struck one of our classmates. Bill Petit lost his wife and two daughters, as well as their home. I hope most of you had the opportunity to read Bill's letter to us that was sent out via our class listserv. In it he explained that he "will try to keep the memories of Jennifer, Hayley 'll and Michaela alive and continue their works through the Petit Family Foundation." Donations to the foundation maybe sent to Farmington Savings Bank, 32 Main St., Farmington, CT 06032, or you may send your check to Kristin Yost McChesney, class treasurer, via the College.

In addition, your class officers have been communicating with Bill and some of his friends about how the class of '78 might show our support. One thought is to honor Hayley at the boathouse, as she would have been a member of the crew team. Another is for our class to team up with Hayley's class (2011) and organize a fundraiser that might support multiple sclerosis research (a cause to which the entire family was devoted) or a scholarship. Adass gift at our 30th reunion (next June!) would be a wonderful time to manifest our whole-hearted support for Bill.

There are undoubtedly many other good ideas. Please share them with us by sending an e-mail to Dave Corey (davcorey@att.net), Anne Bagamery (abagamery@iht.com) or me. We look forward to hearing from you.
