Hope you can make the minireunion October 3-5 at the Lake Morey Resort in Vermont. Great program, football (vs. Penn) and good friends.
Leo Caproni writes of the effort to thank Tom Brokaw and the NBC crew for his personal greeting and their coverage of the 6oth reunion last year: A framed photo of the 6oth was sent with autographs of the key people involved in the program. It was mailed from a rural post office on Cape Cod that, "unbeknownst to us, placed 53 stamps of different denominations on the priority mail package," a violation of U.S. Post Office rules. It arrived at NBC on September 11, 2002—and was promptly returned unopened. A Brokaw staffperson we contacted apologized and asked that it be shipped to her and she would see that it was properly delivered—which was done. Mission accomplished with a nice note from the staffperson.
A friend of Mary and Bob Kirk sent them the following story: She went to a dinner party and was seated next to retired Admiral Ramage. Somehow Dartmouth entered the conversation, and the admiral said that in '44 he was on the U.S.S. Enterprise as the skipper of Bombing Squadron 10 when they lost one of their best men, Stubby Pearson. Stub dove his plane into a Japanese cruiser, killing 44 of the enemy, but he and his gunner were killed on the way down. The admiral said Stub was a wonderful, popular officer, and a real loss to the Navy and his country.
Received word from Dick Higgins that John Brewer had dropped by for a visit on a trip from Colorado (unfortunately, Sally couldn't make it). John had left Dartmouth early in our junioryear to join the NavyAir Corps and Dick had seen him last in late '42, when the "Indian Unit" went to Jacksonville for final flight training. John had been there awhile as an instructor, was married and already a lieutenant, j.g. Sad news to report from the distaff side: Nancy Dingwall, widow of Allan Dingwall, died earlier this year, as did Bill Millers wife, Elise. Our condolences to their families.
