The next class mini-reunion will be on the weekend of October 3-5. Come on up and enjoy the beauty of Hanover in the fall and the camaraderie of our classmates.
Most of you will remember Jack English, who played the piano at many of our reunions and other class affairs. Jack died in March (hisobituary in the previous issue). Tom Ruggles sent me a description of the memorial service for him as follows: "It was a remarkable affair. His sister, Kathy Bray, organized the whole caper, which was held at the Stoneham (Massachusetts) Theatre billed as a memorial concert for Jack English. Some Boston musical luminaries (Marshall Wood, Herb Pomeroy, Dick Johnson, leader of the Artie Shaw Band) were on hand and the joint was jumping. Frank and Ruth Gilroy drove from Monroe, New York, for the occasion. They stayed with us, as did Dick McSorley, driving all the way from Canadaigua, New York. Lee and Margie Sarokin flew in from California, staying with Joel Leavitt and Gail Hano. Also Jill Edelson stayed with them. We all 10 of us met at Felicias Restaurant in Stoneham for dinner before the concert/service. I have taken a boodle of pictures. The service/concert was unique. The honored speakers were Frank, Lee and Bob Pilsbuty '48 (pianist with the New Black Eagle Jazz Band). Frank and Lee did a marvelous job citing anecdotes of Jacks career. Lee was so very close to Jack all throughout his life. You perhaps did not know that they went over to France in 1949 with the Dartmouth "Boptette." Rog Mathes was part of the mix as were others (not '50s). Frank just happened on them in Paris, and he had this and other stories to tell as did Lee, a very special night. I scanned the audience (overjoo folks—they filled the theatre) but did not see any other '50s or Dartmouths, for that matter. More I can not tell you."
Speaking of Frank Gilroy, someone sent me a brochure for the Williamstown (Massachusetts) Theatre Festival that will be going on from June 25 to August 24. Franks newest play, TheLake, was to be performed in July. That's it for now. Send me some news!
