You'll find that more and more in the months to come this DAM column will include stuff about our 5 Oth Reunion, now only a little more than a year away. If you're reading this right now, it shows that you do give a damn about your class and/or your classmates. So, pay heed.
Two immediate tasks. One is to fill out and return the questionnaire you got about your plans, desires, suggestions, etc. for the reunion. Chairman Joel Leavitt and his committee, as well as the College, will produce a top-notch show, but it can be even better if each of us provides some input. Send it in. Please!
The other pressing item is the 50th Reunion book, which Sifty Joe and a few other guys are working hard on. It too will be great, but even more than the reunion itself, its quality (and quantity) will depend largely on YOUR contribution. That means you gotta get hot on writing your bio sketch and sending it off to Joe. And, a picture!
I had one guy write and say he wouldn't think of missing the reunion, but wasn't going to bother to do the write-up. He hadn't done much of interest in the last SO years and nobody gave a damn anyway. That's B.S. Again, if you're reading this, it proves you are interested in your classmates, and so what makes you think that at least a few (and a lot more than you suspect) are interested in you?
I had a call from Arnie Oss ("Yeah, the guy with no teeth") asking for some information. Arnie has retired to Rio Verde, outside of Phoenix, and says he gets together with Fred Gamble as well as a few others (whose names I forgot to write down). Both intend to show at the 50th.
The Boston Globe had a long article on the February reunion of the Tenth Mountain Division at Mt. Cranmore in North Convey, under the sub headline "Lure of mountains still the tie that binds WWII unit." Featured prominently was an interview with Newc Eldridge, who, among other things, was quoted as saying, "Guys...who fought far longer than we did get ticked off because we get so much publicity—and I don't blame them."
Remember, send stuff to Joel and Joe! And, send me some news. Please.
