Wow, you make one little mistake and suddenly you find out who your friends are—or should I say, maybe Pete DeBalli found out just how much of a friend Jon Kohl is. You may recall in our last episode that Jon mentioned a Jeff DeBalli, and your faithfully lazy correspondent went with it. Well, Pete sent a letter to clarify that Jon probably meant him. Pete was also good enough to expand on the news Jon gave me; he is an assistant professor in the department of anesthesiology at Duke. He and his wife, Shannon, are also the proud parents of Peter and Grant. I think. Then again, I have been known to be wrong. Yes, me! (By the way, Pete, your humble self-deprecating purveyor of class news also appreciated the "keep up the good work" at the end of the e-mail!)

SARS has been on the minds of the entire world, but probably more on Sonja Olsen s than any of us. That is because she was in Taiwan actually working closely on the effort to understand and control the epidemic. I hope to have more info on this in the near future. Sonja, maybe you can give me a shout and let me know how it all played out!

Got a quick note from Caroline Harris John, who was married in London this April to Andrew John. Her matron of honor was Jennifer Ackley Bobalik. Acouple of announcements came to me via the traditional media. AMarch 17 release came to me regarding Jennifer Chun and her appointment as director of business development for the Persis Corp. in Honolulu—Persis is a private company that owns and manages distribution, office and retail facilities throughout the United States—while the April 10 Wellesley Townsman in Massachusetts announced Tara Grabowsky's move to the medical staff at Newton-Wellesley Hospital.

Got another note from Ed Hopkins, who continues to hold things down for me on the Hanover Plain. He remains in grad school up there, but noted that "mostly I hang out at Murphy's." God bless you, Ed. Liam (the bartender) is indeed a fine upright Irish young lad, and Hanover needs more of em.

Finally, I decided it was about time that I gave some love to my 51 Leb roommates, who have been quite busy becoming daddies. Eric Vratimos and his wife, Emily, had their second child, Charles Edward, on October 24; Ben Crawford and his wife, Stephanie, were blessed with Ava Cohen on January 22, followed two days later by John Davi and his wife, Alyssa, who had Makena Duclos; Brett Kelleran and his wife, Dori, welcomed Jacob Charles to the world on April 4; and Tom Brodie and his wife, Terrie Lynn, adopted their second child, Matthew Armando, on April 10. Don't worry, Jen Sandoval, there is love left for you, too. Jen and her husband, Mike Faherty, had their third kid (Sophia Alexandra) on February 10.
