Ladies and gentlemen, there has been a Tom Nieman sighting. It was truly a case of two ships passing in the night—as I roared through Chicago's O'Hare Airport, wary of missing my imminent flight back to Manchester, Tom was heading in the other direction, working the cell phone. We could only acknowledge each other, but don't worry, Tom. I didn't want to forget you!
If Tom is in Chicago, though, perhaps we can soon catch up. Ladies and gentlemen, your attention please (drum roll): Mike Mahoney has left Hanover. It took me seven years more than many of you, but at long last I am putting Dartmouth in my rear-view mirror. I have accepted a new job at Northwestern University, working in their athletic media relations office. New address below, e-mail to follow next month. Send those updates to the new location!
Some news received before I became the newest monster of the Midway...
Allison Koweek sent a nice letter with several updates. After receiving a Ph.D. in genetics at Harvard, she has spent the last two years working at St. Mary's Women and Infants Center, a shelter for pregnant and parenting women and their children (making her Ph.D., of course, completely obsolete). She is also due to be married in June 2000 to Jeff Schnipper—hold on to your hats here—a Hahvahd man! Thus will end the long tenure of Kristy Wiwczar as Allison's roommate. Kristy does computer training at a law firm.
Allison reported on several others: Audrey Nacamuli, a frequent dinner partner who also happens to be an attorney in Boston; Jon Douglas, publications coordinator for the Huntington Theater; AjeyaJoshi, who was recently married in India but had a reception in Boston (and is doing his residency in orthopedics at Harvard); Jason Cillo and wife Julie Amstein, who came up from Virginia for Ajeya's reception (Julie is an attorney in Richmond, while Jason is finishing up med school).
Several other medical types still abound in Allison's world. Joe Neimat is doing his neurosurgery residency at Mass General, while Marilyn Cummings and Julie Low, who are in New York doing their residencies in pediatrics and psychiatry, respectively.
Johnette Kao works in health care consulting. Jen Koop is now in Worcester for her family practice residency, while Richelle DeMayo is in Providence on a peds residency.
Recently attended the fabulous wedding of Marianne Bocock to Brian Doyle, a Brown alum who now coaches sailing at Dartmouth (and happened to be my roomm ate up here for three years). There were so many '92 s in the house I can't begin to count them all up, so to save myself from negligence and the opportunity to miss somebody, I will say only this—you know who you are, and did we have a great time or what? Although blowing my flip-flops out doing the "Salty Dog Rag" (props to Jamie Rosen for the refresher course) put a slight damper in my weekend.
