News! You've sent news! Excellent. Please keep the news rolling, even when it starts to seem like it's taking me too long and I've ignored you, keep it coming. I'll do my best to get it all in. There's quite a bit of lag time between you sending it to me and me getting it published. But it will, it will, it will. Honest.
Baby call gets top billing this month. Jessica and Doug Chia welcomed Brendan and Madeline into the world; Brendan edging out Madeline by a scant 23 minutes, on the 29th of January. A pair of lightweights, at 4 pounds, 11 ounces and 5 pounds, 5 ounces, respectively, Doug and Jessica will indubitably have already gone to work on beefing them up. Apparently Doug and Jessica have already placed Brendan and Madeline on the waiting list for Bolliteris Tennis Preschool in Boca Raton, using mixed doubles as their in, having first secured a guaranteed spot with the Child Prodigy Montessori School of Manhattan. They're keeping their options open at press time, but a decision is pending.
The next day, Christen Kaczorowski Lacey and husband John welcomed their first child on the 30th. Christen claims to have begun grooming Niamh Louise for enjoying Hop films in utero, and now, half a year on, Niamh has no doubt seen her first films and begun compiling her personal list of favorites. She probably has some suggestions for a few directors as well and might be just the thing the movie industry needs, in 20 years or so. Christen, aside from mothering, has been working in Boston in investment banking.

And that's about it for this month. News from Africa? Well, since you asked: My wife and I competed in the Two Oceans Half Marathon in Cape Town last April. Neither of us have run much since, but we loved every step of the 13.1 miles (and every step we spent surrounded by modern conveniences while in Cape Townit's amazing how something simple, like ice in a cup, can strike reverie after just a short time away from it all). My greatest success thus far has been to inspire a minor green revolution among my neighbors. I built a low greenhouse out of available materials and have been enjoying fresh greens long after they were frozen in outdoor gardens and disappeared from the grocers. Eyeing my contraption, a half dozen similar winter gardens have sprung up. It's a good start.
