The news is a bit sparse this month, and I have become extremely antisocial as I prepare for my qualifying exams, so I have had no time to collect idle gossip from all of you, but here's what I've got. Gretchen (Werschkul) TenBrook wrote recently to share some exciting news: She and husband John TenBrook Jr. '92 just adopted their second child, Samuel S. Tenßrook. "He was born in Las Vegas on April 9, where we spent two weeks in a hotel room with him before we could go home!" writes Gretchen. Seems like there's a bit of a story there, but you'll just have to call Gretchen for details. As for baby details, Gretchen writes, "He is healthy, and is entertaining us constantly with his cute baby noises and big dark eyes. We are so blessed. Our other son, Vali, is really getting into the big brother thing. We are all adjusting to becoming a family of four, plus our yellow lab, Wilbur." John recently started a new job as a hospitalist in a Boston hospital, while Gretchen is enjoying staying home with Vali and Sam. "They are teaching me to slow down a bit and simply enjoy life—a foreign concept to me for so long." Gretchen also sent updates on Anna Seto Lai, who is enjoying teaching and raising her daughter, Kimberly (who is almost a year old); Kathleen deRiesthal, who is teaching on Long Island; and Maria Lui and Lena Hillenburg, who have finished their residencies in California.
Greg Rodgers writes with lots of news from fellow '94s: "On May 25 John Steiner married Elizabeth Stockman in Birmingham, Alabama. The affair was over the top and a fantastic time was had by all." Dartmouth folks in attendance included Greg and Leah (Tarpy) Rodgers, Jonathan and Sarah (Stelzl) Kehl, Jared and Jessica (Keefe) Nylund, August Detlefsen, Ben Dean, Jason Siegal, Eric Kuecherer, Jeff Battema and David Puritz '97. 'Also in nuptial news," writes Greg, "Eric Kuecherer married his girlfriend Christine Tse on July 4, 2002, and Jeff Battema is marrying his girlfriend, Ellen Kuo, over Labor Day Weekend." Greg and Leah are happily settled in Los Angeles, along with Jonathan and Sarah, and Eric and Christine. As for updates on the other '94s in attendance, Greg writes, Augie is working for himself up in Oakland, Ben and Jason are in the D.C. area, and Jared and Jess are living in Vermont." Thanks so much for the update, Greg, and congrats to John and Elizabeth!
Kim Osgood writes with news of her recent engagement and impending move to my neck of the woods! Kim and Chris (a.k.a. "Woody") Markworth '93 were engaged in June, and are planning to move from their current home in Bozeman, Montana (where Chris is currently finishing up his doctoral dissertation in chemistry), to the Triangle area in North Carolina, where Kim just landed a fourth-grade teaching position at a magnet school in Durham. Congrats to both of you, and I look forward to seeing you when you arrive! Keep the news coming, everyone. Your e-mails are my few human links to the world that exists outside 19 thcentury literature. Take care.
