Lots of mail piling up, so I'll just dive in...Jenny Kim wrote in to give an update on her law school life. She finished her second year at UPenn Law in the spring, but before she did that she was elected executive editor of the UPenn Journal of Labor and Employment Law. When she wrote, she was planning to spend her summer as an associate for Kramer, Levin in New York. "You wouldn't believe how many Dartmouth alums I met during the recruiting season!" writes Jenny. Well, get ready to see another familiar face on campus in the fall, Jenn; Dan Garodnick writes that "after working for two years at the N.Y. Civil Rights Coalition, an organization advocating racial integration, I am off to Penn Law School in August." Dan has been changing jobs with the seasons this past year. In the fall he worked as the deputy campaign manager of a N.Y. State Assembly campaign. In the winter he headed down south to give a hand in rebuilding two black churches burned by arson in 1996 as part of Habitat for Humanity's Church Rebuilding Project. In the spring he headed even further south, living and working in an Ecuadorian rain forest for two months. I am not sure where the summer wind will carry Dan, but at least Jenny can hope to see him before the leaves change color.
Tor Trivers wrote in, sure to make the distinction that his news was indeed for "the Dartmouth Alumni (not Alumnae) Magazine." Don't worry, Tor, we know you're a guy. By the time we read this, Tor's pal, Darren Mareiniss, will be hitched to Alex Morgan '95. The wedding was held in Hanover, and I'm sure that Tor got some extra attention that day, as he was actually responsible for the set-up of the now-newlyweds when they were at school. Darren is in med school at N.Y.U. and Alex is in law school down in Dallas. Tor also writes that "fellow classmate and frat brother Peter H. Stoll," who is now working and living in Paris, won a "handsome sum" of money off a lotto ticket in his home state of Ohio. "He's now having the time of his life," explains Tor. "Parties, models, Ferrari." I was actually hoping the list would be longer than that, but maybe Pete is a private guy. Despite his recent good fortune, Pete is still bringing in the wages, as he continues to work at LaSalle Partners in Paris, in commercial real estate. Maybe those French supermodels don't eat a lot, but I'm sure they've got an appetite for cash. Watch those winnings, Pete.
Schuyler Henderson begins medical school at the University of Illinois this fall, but in the meantime, he has been busy "going to Cubs games with my charming friend, Marty Hanson '76, a former colleague at work." Schuyler works in a refugee resettlement agency, and Marty is the former director of communications there. Well, there's still more to come, but you'll just have to wait till next month. And you please please please have to keep on writing, because, as you may suspect, I pretty much live for your mail. Really. I mean, there's nothing quite like the rush of tearing open those envelopes, flipping over those postcards from exotic destinations, wondering, "what are those crazy kids up to now?!" As you can imagine, the thrill is virtually indescribable. So please, indulge me the few spare moments, the scribbled thoughts, the 32 cents.. .1 can hardly wait...
