Hello from New York, home of the upcoming Republican Convention.

School is wrapping up here; by the time you read this, I will be deep in the midst of summer "vacation." Mostly, I'll be writing my book on Johnny Cash and following the ice cream wagon around Brooklyn. You know, in this space every month, I feel like I'm always giving homework, and no one is doing it; I wish I could quiz you all. But, in the spirit of the summer, what are your fondest memories of summer session at Dartmouth?

I'm also interested in friendship. Every year I find myself more interested in what friendship means, as I meet more people and my relationships change with the people I've known for years. I know this is a broad question, but what do you think friendship means? How has your definition changed?

Reports on responses in coming issues. If I do not get any responses, I'm holding the whole class after school.

On to classmates' reports:

Stephanie Taylor, a fellow New Yorker writes, "So, no news this month? Well, I've got some news! My husband, Bill Song, and I welcomed our precious little boy, Eric Douglas Song, into the world on St. Patrick's Day. I mention St. Patty's Day only because everyone seemed to want him to be born then (I know lots of Irish people) and for us to call him Patrick. Well, it sure will be easy for people to remember his birthday. If anyone is interested in seeing pictures of our cutiepie, they can go to http://homepage.mac. com/billsong/PhotoAlbumy.html and the password is 'hunter.'

"Before Eric was born, I had quit my nutrition consultant job in midtown Manhattan and my husband and I have started our own company, Omni Health Professionals, last November. I am happy to work for myself as a nutrition consultant under our company and I have former colleagues working with me as well and seeing patients while I'm taking care of Eric. Bill does house calls to home bound Medicare patients and is also thrilled to be his own boss."

James Robertson writes: "Please let our classmates know that the next all-class reunion for the Dartmouth Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual and Transgender Alumni/ae Association (D-GALA) will be held in Hanover the weekend of October 1-3. For more information, please visit the D-GALA Web site at www.alum.dartmouth. org/affiliated/dgala."
